Our environmental commitment
How we’re reducing the impact of our lifting and transport work on London and the South East.
Cleaner lifting for London and the South East
Our work involves fuel, emissions, materials and waste, so we take our responsibility to the environment seriously. We’re always looking for ways to cut our impact, prevent pollution and do things the right way.
On the ground, that means quieter, cleaner equipment, fewer vehicles on site and well-planned journeys from our Dartford depot. Here’s what we’re doing today.
Electric where it counts
No exhaust emissions from our spider cranes and company cars, plus careful choices on the oils that keep our machines running.

Fully electric spider cranes
Our spider crane fleet is fully electric, with no exhaust emissions. They run quietly and can do a full day’s work on a single overnight charge.
That makes them ideal for indoor work, occupied buildings and low-emission sites. Spider crane hire
Fully electric company cars
Our company car scheme is fully electric, so the cars our team use every day produce no exhaust emissions and cut our reliance on fossil fuels.
Environmentally friendly oils and lubricants
We use the most environmentally friendly oils and lubricants available for our trucks, cranes and lifting equipment. It’s one more way we reduce the risk of pollution to land and water.
FORS Gold accredited
We’re a FORS Gold accredited operator, the highest level of the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme, and we’re independently audited to keep it. On the environmental side, FORS Gold covers:
- Monitoring fuel use and CO2 emissions across our operation
- Reducing emissions and our wider environmental impact
- Ongoing training for our drivers
FORS Gold sits alongside our other industry accreditations. See all our accreditations
Fewer vehicles, fewer miles
The way we plan, equip and run each job helps cut fuel use, emissions and disruption on site.
One vehicle to lift and deliver
With Hiab hire, our trucks collect, transport and lift your load into position, all with one vehicle. Because one vehicle delivers and lifts, there are fewer vehicle movements on site: no separate delivery lorry and crane, and fewer journeys on the road.
Euro 6, LEZ and ULEZ compliant
Our trucks have Euro 6 engines and are compliant with London’s Low Emission Zone (LEZ) and Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), so they’re ready for Hiab hire in London.
Direct Vision Standard permits
Our trucks hold Direct Vision Standard (DVS) permits for working in London, so they meet Transport for London’s safety standard for HGVs.
Anti-idling policy
Our anti-idling policy means drivers switch their engines off when they’re stationary and the engine isn’t needed, cutting fumes, fuel use and noise on site.
Telematics and fuel monitoring
Telematics on our trucks lets us track every job and monitor fuel use, so we can spot waste and keep improving how we run our fleet.
Planned from our Dartford depot
Our drivers work out of our depot on Green Street Green Road, Dartford, just off the A2 and the M25. Every job is planned in advance, so our trucks take sensible routes and avoid wasted miles.
Well-maintained fleet
Regular safety inspections and daily walkaround checks keep our vehicles and equipment in good condition, so they run efficiently and reliably.
Spill kits on board
Our trucks carry spill kits, so our drivers can contain any leak quickly and protect the ground and drains on site.
LED lighting
We use LED lighting at our depot and on our newer trucks, which uses less energy and lasts longer.
Euro 6 and beyond
Euro 6 is the highest emissions standard currently available for heavy goods vehicles, and we’ll continue to invest in greener options as the industry evolves.
Although the technology isn’t quite there yet for fully electric Hiab trucks, we’re keeping a close eye on its progress and will adapt as suitable options become available.
Less waste, handled responsibly
Looking after the environment carries on back at base in Dartford.
Depot recycling and waste oil
We recycle at our depot, and waste oil from our trucks and equipment is disposed of responsibly, never into drains or general waste.
Less waste
We work to keep waste to a minimum, including wasted materials and energy, and we choose recyclable and renewable materials where we can.
Our people and partners
We train our team in environmental issues, and we expect the same care from the suppliers and subcontractors we work with.
